I’m Dan Mackinnon. I’m the uh launch CEO of Compressive Materials. We produce Baro-Seal, which is an alternative to heat sealing film that allows you to increase the throughput, saves on energy and processing time, and is also compostable. I’m Professor Remzi Becer. I am the co-founder of Compressive Materials. So, we all use sugar, I mean most of us, and we are told that sugar is not good; and then they told us to move into brown sugar to make it healthy, in the packaging is made of paper. It used to be plastic but now it’s paper because they say this is now biodegradable and compostable, but, in reality inside the the paper it is also coated with a film, that is polyethylene or polypropylene and it is also not degradable. So, we are again kind-of tricked into believing that this material is completely compostable, but it’s not. Daniel: The heat sealing process requires high heats of up to 200° or higher, uh in order to melt the heat sealing layer traditionally. We can remove that heating entirely sealing at room temperature using only the pressure of conventional sealing equipment. So, MATcelerate ZERO is a joint uh program with a number of universities, providing funding in order to transition from lab scale research towards commercialisation. For us, this means having the resources to actually scale up our materials from lab scale to a scale which is commercially relevant. Remzi: So, our technology is ready and we are, at the moment, looking for investors for the company to accelerate the research, and to connect with with us, directly with the customers. It can be applied in lots of different areas. So, therefore, we need to work with companies. With the MATcelerate ZERO funding, we got funding to upscale the synthesis of these compounds so we can give away samples to try them on their own systems, and if it works out for their applications, then we are very happy to collaborate with them. Daniel: I would like to see our innovation making an impact on the world, reducing the impact of plastic waste and saving energy and helping us, as a society achieve net zero.
