So the Warwick Future Innovation Leaders program is a pilot that we're running to address, probably one of the most powerful assets that we have within this University.
Much of our commercialisation work is focused on supporting projects. The Warwick Future Innovation Leaders program is focused on our people.
This is a program where we invest in a small number of high potential researchers to help them develop the broad skills and the knowledge, and the networks, to support them in the development of themselves as future Warwick Innovation leaders.
So, we're delivering this program because we know that people are the most important asset in delivering innovation. Many studies have shown that some of the best innovations in the world, that are suitable to the best markets, with the best investors will fall over, if the people and their skills are not also at the highest level, and so we recognise the importance and the potential of our own researchers and the critical role that they play, in taking a research outcome and delivering that, as impact to society.
We take individuals and we design a bespoke set of objectives for them to develop in their skills and knowledge and their networks. Certain individuals may be particularly interested in the investment side of how you commercialise research, others may be interested in more industry focused interactions.
The idea is that we will be exposing them to people and knowledge that they would not easily be able to acquire otherwise.
Our hope is that they will then deliver, with that additional knowledge, value back to the university and back to their own research, as they continue on their career at University of Warwick.
