£46,000 in 30 days. I quit my full-time job. He never got to wear the muzzle that we made for him together.
My name is Clara and I'm the founder of The Muzzle Movement – we sell dog muzzles, but we're more than just selling a product, we are trying to change the public's perception of muzzled dogs.
I was, you know, in quite a senior position in the UK's largest rescue and I wasn't able to find a muzzle that is well fitting, and it allows the dog to drink and pant, and it's comfortable and it's brightly coloured. I launched a kick starter campaign to my audience on Instagram and we ended up raising £46,000 in 30 days.
Unfortunately that first day Tolly, who was the dog that I had made the muzzle for in the first place, he had to go to the vets and he had to be euthanised – that's why Tolly is in all of our branding.
We are making a really big difference to people that really need a little bit of extra support at the moment, because there are so many people that are considering a muzzle for the first time, that have never ever thought about muzzling their dogs before.
We've just done our biggest month yet, which was more than I would have earned in a year in my previous role.
I should have asked for help earlier – I've really really enjoyed the NatWest Accelerator, being able to meet people through this course, and say actually, you know how to do that better than me, can you help me with this. Being able to speak to a mentor and say, hey like I'm really struggling with this at the moment, any ideas? I think that's really really valuable.
