“Being part of Creative Futures supercharged our company.” say Beth Newell and Dom Sant as it’s announced, Common Story, a Leamington-based production company secured the large commission during their time in the incubator.

BBC Three has announced three new commissions from West Midlands Indies as a result of the creative partnership with BBC England and Create Central. The partnership invited independent production companies based in the West Midlands to submit documentary ideas that reflect the life experiences of 13-24 year olds.

Filthy Business follows friends Cam and Oli as they try to grow their new waste management business.

The partners in grime started up when they were furloughed, never expecting the work would take off as it has. They soon realised that if they graft hard, there is money to be made from hopping into hoarder’s houses or cleaning out grubby garages. But now they are facing year two and working out how to grow the company, keep their friendship on track, whilst still finding time for love and life.

Every job is a journey of discovery and with big characters like Cam and Oli, this entertaining film provides a fresh take on being your own boss.

“We are thrilled that Common Story has won our first broadcast commission for BBC 3 and BBC England.  Being part of the Creative Futures Incubator supercharged our company over the last 18 months, giving us space to grow our team and develop mainstream ideas. It has been fantastic to base our production office out of 1 Mill Street thanks to Creative Futures and the University of Warwick.”

explained Beth Newell and Dom Sant, Common Story founders.
